Vale: Warren Atkinson

We sadly announce the sudden passing last weekend of our travel radio show's voice-over announcer, Warren Atkinson. The breakfast show host at 99.7FM, Redcliffe was a much loved local radio personality with a golden voice and a great sense of wry humour. We will keep using his voice-over intros etc on the show for the time being, thus keeping the memory of our dear friend alive. 'Wazza' - may you rest in peace!
On this week's travel radio show and podcast Frances Beasley highlights the country of Austria. Ren Zwiers has the lowdown on average hotel rates in European ‘hot spots’. Arthur von Wiesenberger chats with Max Hartshorne of gonomad.com about his trip to The Azores. John Crook goes on an historic discovery tour of Hobart (Tasmania) with Elizabeth Fleetwood. 2. Just read about Warren Atkinson. I worked with Warren at 4GC Charters Towers during the late 80's. It's a shock. RIP Warren.

  3. Sad to hear about my old mate Wazza Warren Atkinson.
He was one my brillant announcers while I was Manager of 4GC during the 1980's. He had a tremendous personality and a great sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by all who new him.

  4. When I arrived at 4GC/4LM there were still pockets of the Warren Atkinson fan club around town, and he'd been gone for ages! I found out why when the radio roulette game was reversed for once when he arrived at 4HI as I was leaving. He understood the personal and 'one on one' nature of radio in a way that few do today. I'll miss our catch up chats Wazza. Camel

  5. Like many others I listened to Wazza just about every morning while driving to work. He kept me informed, he kept me laughing and he did it in a way that greatly improved our community. When I met him personally at the station, I discovered that he was just as genuine, friendly and helpful as he sounded over the air waves. The listeners of 99.7 miss you Wazza!
