Riding the monorail at Broadbeach

Now that I have changed my hometown from Brisbane to the Gold Coast expect to see more sounds and vision of this beautiful part of Australia.

For many years the Broadbeach monorail has run from two stations within The Oasis shopping centre to Jupiters Casino/Hotel across the busy Gold Coast Highway.

It currently costs $3.00 per ride to do either the one way journey or the complete roundtrip.

The monorail isn't the fastest mode of transport you'll ever enjoy - it falls well short of being a 'thrill ride'. However, it's a Gold Coast icon that is worth preserving.

I recently took the roundtrip with my trusty Sony Handycan aimed out of the window. The above video is the result of this excursion.

Sydney City Scenes captured on video

On a recent weekend trip to Sydney I shot some random city scenes in and around the downtown area, capturing sites like Pitt Street Mall (and the brand new very popular Zara store) and Hyde Park. We then boarded the Sydney City Sightseeing bus and headed through Kings Cross, Paddington to Bondi and stopped over at ritzy Double Bay with its exclusive (and expensive) shops on the return trip. Above is the video I posted on my 'Travel With Ren' youtube channel and on tripfilms.com. Hope you enjoy the sights!

Kuala Lumpur is an impressive city

I recently visited Malaysia's biggest city, Kuala Lumpur on a budget priced Gold Coast-KL flight with Air AsiaX. KL impressed me with its modern, clean appearance and great shopping centres as well as some worthwhile market facilities for a bit of bargain hunting. The night market in Petaling Street in Chinatown was the favourite. Above is a five minute travel video I produced on KL. Hope you enjoy watching it!

VIDEO: Riding the CityCat - Brisbane

Brisbane's favourite mode of transport, the CityCat ferry plies the Brisbane River from Hamilton (downstream) through the city heart to the University of Queensland at St Lucia (upstream). A Cat arrives approximately every 10 minutes at all stops along the way, providing a seamless and pleasant method of travel which is a big hit with tourists and locals alike.

The complete one way journey takes approximately one hour.

We rode the CityCat from Bretts Wharf, Hamilton to the city and beyond on a recent weekend, capturing many of the passing Brisbane landmarks on video. This is definitely the best way to see my home town!

VIDEO: Singapore - the Asian gateway

Singapore is the gateway to European flights for many tourists flying from Australian destinations, therefore it has become a major 'stopover' destination, breaking the 24 hours of flying from Australia's east coast into two manageable sectors.

The shopping in Singapore is not as cheap as it used to be, with major brand stores starting to predominate in massive centres and the famed Orchard Road has never attracted me - it's just more shopping centres selling stuff you can buy just about anywhere for similar or better prices.

Instead, head for areas like Chinatown and the River Walk for passing the time. The Singapore Gardens (as seen in this video) are great for finding a cool spot in a hot tropical city. Or check out my separate video on Sentosa Island, where all the locals go to play (and stay).
