Amongst the many unique features of the Festival will be an extraordinary street display of 'citrus sculptures', imaginative three-dimensional creations made from wire netting and 100,000 oranges and grapefruit resembling a variety of objects from a giant 6X 2 metre guitar (pictured) to intricate horses and carriages.
There’ll also be a Flower Power Art Exhibition, a Floral Art and Quilt display - and to see what can be achieved in this irrigated city that was also designed by Canberra’s planner, Walter Burley Griffin, ten spectacular private gardens will be open to visitors, together with the Burley Griffin Community Gardens.
The city’s Pioneer Park Museum, created by bringing together an amazing 40 historic homesteads, farm buildings and town businesses, including a 1950s grocery store stocked as it was in its heyday, and a fascinating collection of working farm machinery, showcases the history of the Riverina.
A majestic 12x5 metre hand-sewn stage curtain in the Regional Theatre depicts the City and its surrounding countryside.
The Griffith Festival of Gardens will be officially launched with a floral display and bell ringing at the city’s St Alban’s Cathedral at 6pm on October 17.
